Background

Marina Palairos, located on the Ionian coast of western Greece in the town of Palairos (Aetolia-Acarnania), is a small yet charming marina that serves as a convenient base for sailors exploring the Ionian Islands. The marina currently offers around 32 berths for vessels up to 60 meters in length and a draft of up to 4 meters. Essential facilities include water, electricity, fuel, a crane, sanitary services, and nearby conveniences such as a supermarket, laundry, restaurants, bars, and ATMs, making it well-suited for visiting yachts.

Beyond its practical amenities, the marina benefits from its setting in a lively seaside town with authentic Greek charm. Palairos itself is surrounded by sandy beaches like Vathyavali and Pogonia, scenic landscapes, and archaeological sites such as the Castle of Kechropoula. With easy access to Lefkada and other Ionian islands, it’s a strategic stop for both leisure sailors and charter yachts.

Looking ahead, Palairos is set to see major development with a planned 400-berth marina just north of the current port. The project envisions modern infrastructure, including yacht facilities for vessels up to 50 meters, alongside shops, restaurants, hotels, and landscaped areas. This expansion is expected to elevate Palairos into a prominent yachting hub while retaining its traditional hospitality and coastal beauty.

Getting There

🚗 How to Get There

By Air ✈: The nearest airport is Aktion National Airport (PVK) in Preveza, about 30 km / 35–40 minutes by taxi or rental car. It offers domestic flights from Athens and seasonal international routes.

By Car 🚗: From Athens, the drive takes about 4–5 hours (350 km) via the modern Ionian Highway (A5) and the Rio–Antirrio bridge.

By Bus 🚌: Regular buses run from Athens to Preveza; from there, local transport or taxi can take you to Palairos.

By Sea ⛴: Palairos lies opposite Lefkada and near Meganisi, Kalamos, and Kastos, making it an easy sailing stop within the Ionian Islands.

By Taxi 🚖: Taxis are readily available at Aktion Airport and Preveza; a ride to Palairos takes around 35 minutes.
